TIMISOARA

Timisoara was our first of three Romanian cities, and it was a great introduction to the country! Although we didn’t stay for very long, we were able to get a good vibe for the city and the Romanian culture.

Our first day out in Timisoara we visited Victory Square, a beautiful square where Timisoara was declared the first independent city in Romania! The square is really more of a rectangle, with the Opera House on one end and an Orthodox cathedral on the other. There are fountains and beautiful flower belts in between. We happened to be here during a wine festival (there seem to be festivals going on everywhere we go) so there were some fun stalls set up with more tourists exploring the area than usual. As this was our first taste of Romania in Fall, we were very excited by the different types of architecture and the spookier feel.

The next day out on the town we visited the other square in Timisoara, Liberty Square, which marks the city’s military center. There were cute pastel buildings here as well as a striking synagogue. There were a lot of kids playing here, and we let ourselves wander and enjoy the cute streets nearby.

The rest of our time in Timisoara was spent working, finding a Taco Bell, enjoying the $2 across-town Ubers, and wandering the biggest mall we have ever seen. We were particularly excited to get to our destination because some of our family was meeting us there! Next stop, Bucharest!
